The Self-Protective Initiator
I just want to do things my way.
You’re here to initiate, move first, and create momentum for others by listening to internal urges and acting from them. You’re not built to wait for permission. Autonomy is how you’re wired for success.
Many Initiators grew up being told:
you’re too much
slow down
explain yourself
be more like everyone else
When your natural bigness or independence was controlled, your nervous system learned that being fully yourself can create conflict or disapproval.
So you may now oscillate between:
shrinking or people-pleasing
and pulling away to protect your freedom
Underneath both is a nervous system trying to preserve your power.
-
You naturally move energy and initiate change and everyone feels it.
But when that power is suppressed or judged early on, Initiators often learn to self-monitor, overthink, or seek validation before acting.
This creates internal tension:
strong urges to move → hesitation → irritation or anger
Anger hows up when your energy feels blocked, controlled, or misunderstood.
-
Suppressing urges → overthinking → irritation → withdrawal or explosive action.
-
Rebuilding trust with your internal urges and creating safety around being fully expressed will bring you back to your authentic self.
You’re designed to move in powerful bursts followed by rest, not on a constant hamster wheel.
Peace will come when your nervous system feels safe, honoring its urges without overexplaining or shrinking.
